Alastair's recent experience has included:
- Company law
- s459 unfair prejudice: Junior to Christopher Harrison on behalf of a respondent/cross petitioner in multi-million pound action.
- Mergers and acquisitions: Providing advice and transactional support in a major acquisition, including advice on the cancellation of bearer shares.
- International commercial law: Junior to John Brisby QC and Richard Hill in major ongoing contractual dispute in the tobacco industry.
- Sale of goods: Obtained ex-parte injunction in the High Court in a sale of goods dispute concerning questions of agency and title.
- Economic torts: Acting for a co-defendant in a claim in economic torts for alleged assistance in breaches of restrictive covenants in an employment contract.
- Unlawful distraint: Acting on behalf of bailiffs in defending a number of claims for unlawful distraint.
- Corporate insolvency: numerous cases including contested winding-up petitions, injunctions to restrain presentation or advertisement of winding-up petitions, and actions on behalf of a liquidator to recover company assets.
- Personal insolvency: a range of instructions including obtaining bankruptcy orders, and acting in proceedings for a possession and sale order.
- Competition: Working for the Office of Fair Trading on a major cartel investigation.

Alastair Tomson spent almost six years in business consultancy with a company which he co-founded, and therefore has practical experience both of the commercial world and of running a business. He was a member of a regional committee of the Institute of Directors between 2001 and 2002.
He is currently completing a Master of Laws by thesis in the field of Private International Law, in particular anti-suit injunctive relief.
