Litigation and advice in the fields of company law, corporate fraud, insolvency, commercial litigation and public law
Company Law
During pupillage, Alex gained exposure to a broad range of Chambers' company litigation and advisory work. In particular, he assisted his pupil master on a three-week trial in the Companies Court, involving a claim against a company director for breach of fiduciary duty. Alex also assisted his pupil master on a successful hearing of an unfair prejudice petition before the Court of Appeal. He has also gained experience during pupillage of non-contentious company advisory work, including advice to company directors regarding proposed share transactions.
Corporate Insolvency
Alex appears regularly in the winding up court, both on behalf of petitioning creditors and debtor companies. During his pupillage, he assisted several members of chambers in complex litigation arising out of large cross-border corporate insolvencies and assisted in the preparation of advice for company administrators.
Commercial Litigation
During his pupillage, Alex gained experience in commercial litigation, especially disputes involving overseas parties requiring consideration of jurisdictional and conflict of laws issues. In particular, Alex assisted his pupil master in drafting a substantial witness statement in support of a challenge to the English court's jurisdiction. He has also assisted his pupil masters in drafting pleadings, as well as preparing skeleton arguments for interlocutory applications, summary judgment hearings in the Commercial Court and trials.
Bankruptcy
Alex has appeared in the County Court representing petitioning creditors in bankruptcy proceedings.
Public Law
During his pupillage, Alex assisted members of chambers on advisory work for the Inland Revenue and assisted in the drafting of documents for a hearing before the Privy Council.
